Energy Efficient Makeover Slated for Mt. Vernon Street Residence

BOSTON -- For its 10th Extreme Makeover: My Hometown project, WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 will partner with NSTAR for a special “Going Green” initiative at one of Rosie’s Place residences. WCVB’s Susan Wornick announced the initiative at Thursday's Funny Women Serious Business Luncheon to benefit Rosie’s Place. Wornick has hosted the event for the past six years.NSTAR recently completed a preliminary assessment of the Mt. Vernon Street home in Dorchester and identified several key areas where their expertise will ensure the home is an energy efficient and comfortable haven for women with medical issues.The NewsCenter 5 team of anchors and reporters will join forces with NSTAR employees in November to perform a complete home energy audit and install new energy efficient lighting, appliances and more. Their work will be documented in a series of news reports, web stories, public service announcements and on WCVB’s acclaimed nightly newsmagazine, Chronicle. Channel 5 viewers and TheBostonChannel.com users will learn how they can make both affordable and long-term changes in their own homes.WCVB President and General Manager Bill Fine said, “It has been a wonderful experience working with the area’s top civic, philanthropic and charitable organizations over the past few years on so many worthy Extreme Makeover projects.” He continued, “I look forward to working with our friends at NSTAR and Rosie’s Place to truly make a difference in the lives of the residents of Mt. Price Rehabilitation Centers – refurbishment of a Newton home Project Hope – renovation of a Dorchester convent Latinas y Ninos Center at Casa Esperanza in Dorchester St. Patrick’s Elementary School in Roxbury Crittendon Women’s Union in Brighton – common living space
