QB Tony Romo Sidelined With Broken Finger

Cowboys Quarterback Could Miss Up To 4 Weeks

The Dallas Cowboys will have to rebound from Sunday's loss without quarterback Tony Romo.

ESPN reported Monday that the passer was expected to miss about four weeks of action because of a broken finger on his throwing hand. Head coach Wade Phillips was more optimistic during his weekly news conference.

"We don't know how long he'll be out ... it depends on how fast that heals," said coach Wade Phillips, who said there won't be any surgery. "I'd say week to week, depending on quickly he heals. Different people heal differently."

The team's backup quarterback is Brad Johnson, who hasn't started a game since 2006.

Romo was battered by Arizona's defense throughout the Cardinals' 30-24 overtime win Sunday, getting sacked three times and hit eight times.

According to multiple media outlets, Romo was seen with his right hand heavily wrapped with ice in the locker room following the game.

The team's official Web site said Romo injured his right pinky finger during the first play of overtime, when he was sacked by Chike Okeafor. Romo fumbled the ball after the sack but was able to recover it.

He stayed in the game and then threw two incompletions to Terrell Owens before the Cowboys were forced to attempt a punt.

"Obviously, he had trouble throwing the ball that last series in overtime," Phillips said.

Through Sunday's game, Romo has tallied 1,689 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.
