Celtics' 'Big Baby' Helps Grant 'Big Wishes'

WCVB TV/DT Channel 5, The Home Team Up With Celtics Star To Help Children In Need

UPDATED: 4:08 pm EDT October 10, 2008

The holidays are coming early this year to children in need thanks to a series of public service announcements (PSAs) featuring Glen “Big Baby” Davis from the World Champion Boston Celtics and WCVB-TV/DT sports reporter Mike Dowling. The PSAs are geared to support The Home for Little Wanderers’ mission to help ensure the healthy, emotional, mental, and social development of children at risk, their families, and communities.

Topics for the six PSAs include this year’s Big Wishes for Little Wanderers Holiday Gift Drive, one of the oldest gift drives in Boston, and the importance of a mentor or foster care parent in the life of a child.

There is a great need for foster caregivers in Massachusetts and across the country. The Home for Little Wanderers’ Intensive Foster Care (IFC) program is committed to providing loving and stable homes to children who currently reside in hospitals, residential programs, temporary foster care homes, or with birth parents who are unable to care for them.

The Home is actively recruiting foster caregivers for its Intensive Foster Care and Boston's Hope programs and mentors to partner with teens and adolescents throughout its programs. The Home believes that all children deserve to have a loving and caring home and a positive role model in their lives.

The PSAs will run on WCVB-TV/DT Channel 5 through October 2009. The Home for Little Wanderers Holiday Gift Drive officially kicks off Nov. 25 and ends Dec. 23.
