Durango Mountain Resort, known forever to locals only as "Purgatory," is a four-season resort bounded by spired peaks on three sides and high desert to the south. The Animas River bisects the town. This geographic alignment places Durango squarely in the middle of two weather systems with a track record of producing steady light snowfall followed by bluebird days. There is shuttle service from the town of Durango to the resort.
Lodging
Durango Mountain Resort offers a full range of lodging options, from slopeside to remote, individual to group, studio to luxury mountain home. The Purgatory Village Hotel is set directly into the mountain and offers deluxe king rooms or multi-room suites with panoramic views. BlackBear Townhomes represent the first of the resort's new east villages, located directly across from the main resort entrance. East Rim Condominiums just 30 minutes away from the mountain. Cascade Village is two miles north of Purgatory Village. Lodge at Tamarron is ten minutes south.
