BOSTON -- A woman in her 40's was struck by a car and dragged for a quarter-mile in Wakefield on Monday night.The unidentified woman was sitting in the road when she was struck on Greenwood Street near the Melrose line at about 8:25 p.m., according to Wakefield police.
VIDEO: Woman Struck, Killed By CarWitnesses said that the woman was struck by a green or tan Audi with darkened windows that fled the area."Two cars hitting -- that's how loud the bang was and screaming," said Dorothy Richards of Wakefield.Richards said that she rushed out after hearing the noise."Some neighbors who were taking a walk just saw a woman get hit by a car, and we believe she's dead," Laura Small said she they called 911.The victim was pronounced dead at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Police are searching for the driver involved in the incident and looking for information to identify the driver."That's our plea -- is to see if someone is missing someone, call us right away," Wakefield Police Department Chief Richard Smith said. "It's going to help us a lot of we can (determine) who our victim is."The victim is described as a heavy-set woman who is about 5-feet 5-inches. She was wearing a long sleeve white sweatshirt, jeans and brown hiking-type sneakers.
