A man was killed in a two-car crash in Wareham on Interstate 195 on Monday.

The crash happened Monday at about 9:55 a.m. on I-195 eastbound near the Route 105 interchange in Wareham.

State police said Samantha Cardillo, 21, of Taunton, lost control of her 1999 Toyota Camry in the left travel lane and collided with the rear driver's side of a Cadillac Deville in the right travel lane that was being driven by an adult man. The driver of the Cadillac lost control after the collision, spun out and hit several trees before coming to rest at the bottom of an embankment, state police said. The driver of the Cadillac was not wearing a safety belt, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was declared dead at the scene.

Cardillo and the front seat passenger of the Camry, Ronald Varney, 19, of New Bedford, were both wearing safety belts and were not injured, state police said.

The name of the victim was not released.

State police said a summons would be sought for Cardillo for motor vehicle homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and possession of a Class D substance.

The crash remains under investigation.
