BOSTON -- In a few days, turkey will be the centerpiece on America's collective dinner table, but will families alter their Thanksgiving meals and preparations because of the nation's economic climate?
Skimp On Thanksgiving Dinner?"Probably not. It's one of the days that I don't think I really want to skimp on," one shopper said.
Owens Poultry Farm said there is no noticeable difference in orders this year. Don Owen said it's due to the tradition of the holiday."You have to have turkey on the table. It's not like Christmas or other holidays where you have choices of different meats," he said.At Stop and Shop in Dedham, shoppers were being selective, choosing between various grades of turkey -- fresh and frozen."Consumers are trying to be careful. We've seen an increase in folks buying frozen turkeys. They're a great value," said Faith Weiner, of Stop and Shop."The economy doesn't change things. I'm still going to keep to my usual routine for the holidays," another shopper said."I was at another grocery store, and I came here because I have to find things cheaper. I mean, everything is about price and scaling back," another shopper said.
