Police searching for a 5-year-old boy who was reported missing have set up roadblocks in the Lynn neighborhood where they believe he was last seen.

NewsCenter 5’s Todd Kazakiewich reported that police hope to gather information about Giovanni Gonzalez’s disappearance from people who routinely travel through the Brightwood Terrace area.

As part of their door-to-door search, officers handed out fliers with information about Giovanni and spoke to drivers passing through the neighborhood.

Lynn police said Friday that they found a bloody mop in the apartment of the boy’s father.

Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett told The Daily Item of Lynn on Friday night that finding blood "is always a concern," but it's not yet known whose blood is on the mop.

The Item reported Friday investigators sought a warrant for a follow-up search of the home after the mop tested positive for blood. An affidavit also said the father had "an open cut and a bandaged finger," which he would not explain.

Ernesto Gonzalez has pleaded not guilty to child endangerment. He's held on $500,000 bail.

Prosecutors said the boy was dropped off at his father's home Aug. 15. When the boy's mother went to pick him up two days later, Gonzalez said their son wasn't there.
