Four Local Beaches Closed

High Bacteria Reported

UPDATED: 1:30 pm EDT August 20, 2008

Four beaches in Dennis are closed due to high bacteria count, according to the town's recreation department.

Bayview Beach, Mayflower Beach, Howes Street Beach and Chapin Beach will remain closed until at least Thursday.

Officials said that the high levels of bacteria may be due to recent heavy rains. There is a chance that once the tide goes out, the bacteria may clear, but officials are required to keep the beaches closed for 24 hours.
