Reports of 60 cases of serious crimes such as rape, assault and murder at long-term care facilities will get a closer look from Congress this week. The House Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight will hear testimony on the issue on Wednesday. It will hear from Oklahoma State Sen. Tom Adelson, who wrote a bill in that state that established separate, secure nursing homes for sex offenders, according to a news release previewing the hearing.
The release also said the law was inspired by Wes Bledsoe, founder of A Perfect Cause, a group that wants to remove violent and sexual predators from nursing facilities.Bledsoe will reportedly discuss how sex offenders get in the facilities, as well as cases of assaults against fellow residents, staff and even visiting children.
